Pink (#1)

Well, I never expected to title a blog post “Pink,” and I never thought I’d post pictures like these next two… especially under the title of “Pink.”

Just over one week ago, my girlfriends from home drove to little Albia, Iowa for our annual weekend away together. One girlfriend is originally from Albia, and while we spent most of the weekend at Honey Creek Resort, we decided we were game for adventure and headed to the farm to admire her dad’s cows and their baby calves. Two friends rode in a pickup with her dad, and two of us followed behind with our dear friend at the wheel. We bumped around this pasture… but no cows!

Ah, Farmer L.C. had an idea. We parked along the gravel road and watched from one side of the barbed wire fence as Farmer L.C. disappeared into a grove of trees. Then we heard the cows. One by one they paraded past, lowing at us city girls while we clicked away with our smart phone cameras (see Farmer L.C. way in the back there in the white shirt?!):

We spent nearly a full day in Albia’s town square touring their historic bank, checking out a very fun boutique yarn shop while helping our friend pick out a crochet shawl pattern to go with her wedding dress, gobbling up Smitty’s famous tenderloins, enjoying coffee and malts, and trying on vintage jewelry and dresses. I snatched up these clip-on faux pink pearl earrings I was digging, and after I brought them home I realized they seemed familiar. I think they’re identical to a set of earrings my grandma let us girls wear to play dress up:

Then just the other day, shortly after the Youth Art Team completed their mural project, I started wondering if their choice of color began to have an influence on me because I now find myself choosing pink (never thought of myself as a pink lover). Here’s the team in front of their mural (but covering up most of the hot pink paint). See the blog for more pics, stories, and a video:

So - to my sister’s chagrin, I’m sure (wink, wink) – I plan to share lots of pink in my next post. It’s everywhere I look… I’m even creating some of it.

Finally, speaking of pink… one of my girlfriends who could not join us in Albia had her baby girl Sunday afternoon, bringing to our group of friends the first set of sisters (my daughter is very jealous)!

Pink, pink, pink…
